Random thoughts...
The phenomena of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and others created a new reality, when people’s interaction and their private live went open to public, lost its privacy and became an object of everybody’s attention. While experts dispute with each other if this is a bad thing or a good thing, the process is growing exponentially, involving more and more people in social exhibitionism.
In addition to social networks, the Internet itself destroyed the shield of privacy that existed around each of us in the pre-Internet era. There is tons of information that zillions of web sites store on their servers, and something in this information somehow might be connected to you or to me, or to somebody else. Anybody who wants to do that can collect quite a portfolio about you in minutes – just by using search engines and social networks. From traditional point of view it looks like a catastrophe, an end of the era of privacy and security. Well, I disagree with this. I think, now we are returning to our roots, when members of small communities such as villages or small towns knew each other very well. And because of that, they needed to act responsibly, behave properly and value their reputation. All these qualities were lost during the time of industrialization and urbanization, because you could easily disappear in a big city, where nobody cares even about their neighbours. And now the new round of technical progress is forcing us to be more responsible and more careful with what you say and what you do.
